207 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GREENE, John Alfred “Fred” Fred was born on August 2, 1909 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted with the United States Army on February 9, 1943. Technical Corporal John Alfred (Fred) Greene was killed in action in Italy on March 5, 1945 while serving with the 10th Mountain Division (United States Army) in the Signals Corps. His regiment was involved in action near Canevaccia, in the Po Valley during the final months of the war. Fred’s name is inscribed on the Cenotaph in Richmond Hill, Ontario and is commemorated on the Greene Family headstone St. Luke’s Cemetery in Thornhill. GREGORY, Henry Henry was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on April 14, 1907. He enlisted in the Air Force on June 24, 1943. He served as a Leading Aircraftsmen during World War II. He served in Canada and was discharged on December 2, 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Coronation 286 Rexdale for 34 years. Henry passed away on February 2, 1992. GREER, Orville John Orville was born in Burketon, Ontario on February 18, 1917. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served as a gunner with the 18th Field Battery, a division of 25 Mediterranean Battery. He was stationed in Italy and later in Holland. Although wounded, he participated in the liberation of that country. He proudly joined The Royal Canadian Legion Oshawa Branch and was a member for many years. Orville passed away on February 11, 1975.
