205 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRAY, Earl Howard “Tapper” Earl was born in Aurora, Ontario on January 3, 1914. He enlisted in the Army on September 10, 1941. He served in the 99th Battery of the 19th Field Regiment from 1939 to 1944. He served in England and the Netherlands during World War II and did combat duty on the beach of Normandy on D-Day. He was discharged on April 14, 1945. Earl was employed with The Royal Canadian Legion as Service Bureau Officer in North Bay, Ontario until he retired, helping many Veterans getting the services they required. He was a Life Member of Walkerton Legion Branch 102 and West Ferris Legion Branch 599. Earl passed away on January 25, 1991. GREEN, Ernest Robert Ernest was born in Devonport, Devon, England on May 15, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on April 6, 1951. He served with the 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards in England, Egypt and the Canal Zone until his discharge on April 5, 1963. He also served in the City of London Police Force in England from 1956 to 1971. He was a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kincardine Branch 183. Ernest passed away on May 25, 2015. GREAVES, Ivan L. Ivan, the youngest of six children of Albert and Catherine (Smith) Greaves, was born on December 27, 1915 in Maidstone, Essex County, ON. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 6, 1943 and was stationed in Trenton, ON, at the Canadian Forces Base (Deseranto), as an airplane mechanic during World War II. He was honourably released on February 25, 1945 and was transferred to the reserves. Ivan returned home to a wife Gladys and three children, Joan, Jim and Judy and got a job at the Ford plant in Windsor, ON. He later purchased the Sunoco Gas Station in Essex in 1950, and sold it in 1962 to work at McCallum Transport. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201, also became a Mason Member in 1961, until he passed away in April 2005 at the age of 89. His wife Gladys is still a resident at Iler Lodge in Essex.
