489 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND YOUNG, Leonard Noah Leonard was born in Hanover, Ontario on February 4, 1917. He enlisted in the Army on July 24, 1940 with the 98th Bruce Anti-Tank Battery RCA. He served in Canada, Central Mediterranean, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. His rank was Gunner class 111. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp 1939-1945, the Italy Star 1939-1945 and the France and Germany Star. After his discharge on October 20, 1945, he returned to his previous occupation as a furniture finisher at Knechtel in Hanover. He married Ruth M. Schaus in 1947. Together they had six children. Leonard passed away on August 2, 1969. He was a member of Hanover Legion Branch 130 until his death. ZURBRIGG, Stephen Edward Stephen was born in Listowel, Ontario on December 16, 1948. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1966 and served with the 4 RCR and 7th Toronto Regiment, RCA in Canada as a Reservist. He joined the 3 RCR (London and Oxford) prior to it becoming the 4th Battalion. He was discharged on December 16, 2008. Stephen has been a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8 for eight years. ZURBRIGG, Albert Gordon Albert was born in St. Marys, Ontario on May 6, 1912. He enlisted in the Army on September 24, 1938 and served in England and Northwest Europe during World War II. He was employed in many roles with 1st Hussars, Orderly Room Clerk, Dispatch rider ending as WO II, TQMS. Albert was discharged on November 1, 1945. Post war, he became involved in many community groups: Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, Y’s Men, Educated Duck Club, United Way, SAWA, Perth Museum, Central United Church and Volunteer in Corrections, Red Cross and Stratford Recreational Committee. He was awarded Commander St. John’s by the St John Ambulance. He was awarded Equites in the Legion of Honour by France. He was a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8, Ontario for 67 years. Albert passed away on December 13, 2016.
