485 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WOODWARD, Bernard Bernard was born in Nottingham, England on October 16, 1888, son of Leonard and Alice Woodward, husband of Maggie Louisa Woodward (Lilley). His family immigrated to Canada and settled in Waterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on February 25, 1915 and was attached to the Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment, Division: “B” Coy. 21st Battalion. Private Bernard Woodward was killed in service on September 15, 1916 and is commemorated on page 185 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried at Courcelette British Cemetery in Somme, France. WRIGHT, Wilbur John Raymond Wilbur was born in Dean Lake, Ontario on July 14, 1918. He enlisted in the Army in Sault Ste. Marie on August 11, 1941 serving as a Trooper with the Ontario Tank Regiment during World War II. He was a mechanic for the tank Corps. During times of need he was required to do other duties such as being a driver for Officers to attend meetings and events. Wilbur served in various countries such as North Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and England. He returned home to Canada in 1945 on the Empress of Scotland which docked at Halifax. He was discharged formally in 1945. On returning home to Sault Ste. Marie, Wilbur worked various places as a mechanic. He married Annie (McCarrel) of McCarrel’s Lake in 1946. He opened his own garage in Echo Bay. In 1956, Wilbur started working for the Department of Highways as Equipment Supervisor for Algoma District and then Services Supervisor until his retirement in 1981. Wilbur passed on January 30, 2007. He really loved his Family and cottage after his retirement. Wilbur was a member of Legion Branch 25. WORMALD, Charles Stanley Tong Charles was born on April 29, 1890 in Yorkshire, England. Charles enlisted in the Army on October 2, 1915 and served as a driver in World War I with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Charles was killed in action on September 27, 1918 as he was shot through his Bible, which he carried in his uniform chest pocket. His brother, Frank, also served but in the British Army. Charles is buried in Quarrywood’s Cemetery in France.
