477 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILLIAMS, Harry Borden Harry was born on July 10, 1918 in Aberdeen Add’l Township, Gordon Lake, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in Sault Ste. Marie on August 11, 1941 and served as a Trooper with the Ontario Tanks Regiment in World War II. He drove tanks, having served in Canada, Italy, France and Germany and was also involved in the liberation of Holland. He returned home in 1945 on the Empress of Scotland docking in Halifax and was formally discharged in January 1946. Harry received the Star of Italy, France and Germany and the Defence of Britain Medal 19391945. Harry took up farming helping his father Murdock Williams. Harry married in 1946 and took over the farm and winter logging. Subsequently, he began driving truck for various construction companies. He and his wife Mary (McCarrel) raised a family of six children in Gordon Lake and Echo Bay. Harry spent his last years bedridden after a serious operation. He always enjoyed company for conversation or to play a game of cards. He was a member of the Legion Branch 25 for 23 years. Harry passed away on October 8, 1991. WILSON, Adam Stanners Adam was born on April 22, 1931 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Adam was raised in Scotland and returned to Canada in his teens. He enlisted in the Army on August 16, 1950. He trained at Currie Barracks, Calgary with PPCLI 2nd Battalion and in the USA before being shipped out on the Jos P. Martinez, landing in Korea 24 days later. He was wounded on his head, back and leg by a grenade on Hill 532 in March 1951. He ended up at the Commonwealth Hospital in Japan before being sent to Sunny Brook Hospital. He was discharged on September 26, 1951. He then went on to become General Manager of Yale Security. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, The Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal, the Commonwealth Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. His widow was awarded the Memorial Cross because his death was attributed to his injuries. Adam passed away on June 20, 1992. He was a member of Legion Branch 58 in Hamilton, ON. WILLIS, Charles Cecil Charles was born on September 21, 1918 in North Gower, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force during World War II with the 153 Squadron England and 425 Squadron St. Hubert, Quebec. From October 19, 1944 to April 4, 1945 Charles served in 36 combat missions and in NATO from 1953 to 1956. He was discharged in June 1964. He was a member of Legion Branch 52 Peterborough and Branch 593 Nepean. Charles passed away December 24, 2003.
