475 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WIECHERS, Wilbert Lindhorst Wilbert was born in Preston (Cambridge), Ontario on April 25, 1923. He enlisted in the Army on November 23, 1942. He served in Northwest Europe: France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the 4th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II. He was discharged on February 4, 1946. Wilbert passed away on March 23, 2009. WILKINS, Francis Stanley “Jim” Jim was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on March 20, 1938. Jim had a fascination with the military and joined the Army Cadets spending four years and going to four summer camps in Dundurn, SK. He aged out of cadets as a master cadet with the rank of RSM. He joined the Regular Force as a vehicle technician in RCEME on November 28, 1955. He was posted to numerous locations in Canada, as well as a thirteen month tour to Egypt and two tours to Germany. He retired after 26 years with the rank of CWO. He maintained his link with the military by working with major equipment manufactures supplying vehicles to the military. He was the ILS manager on three major procurement programs, the BV206 Swedish over snow vehicle, the HLVW from Austria and the LSVW from Italy. He also has been President of the RCEME Association on three separate occasions and is still a member of its BOD 35 years after his retirement. He married Audrey Shultz in 1959. He has been a ten year member of The Royal Canadian Legion. WILKINS, Francis James Francis was born in England on March 5, 1912 and moved to Canada with his family at the age of twelve. He married Eve Moore in Sioux Lookout, Ontario in 1935 and had three sons. He joined the Lake Superior Regiment on July 11, 1940 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on April 30, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal with Clasp. His marriage was one of the unfortunate causalities of the war but on his return he gathered up his three sons and raised them in Fort William, Ontario. He worked at Western Grocers/Westfair Food until his retirement. With all of his children grown and gone he found a new love and married Mary Kryaluk and they lived in Thunder Bay until her death in 1995 and his in 2000. Francis was a member of the Legion. Two of his sons also joined the service, Fred thirty years RCN and Francis 26 years RCEME.
