473 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WHITE, Georgina Mae Georgina was born on January 22, 1935 in Coldwater, Ontario. Georgina enlisted in the RCAF in 1953. She trained at St. Jean, Quebec and at Trenton, ON. She was a Fighter Control Operator on radar. She served in Falconbridge, Ontario and Lac St. Denis, Quebec. After Georgina’s discharge from the RCAF on December 31, 1955, she worked for Ontario Hydro in Alliston and Uxbridge. She retired to Flesherton and now lives in Mt. Forest, ON. She has been a member of the Legion Branch Sutton and Flesherton for a total of nineteen years. WHITFIELD, William Thomas “Bill” Bill was born on October 8, 1913 in Brantford, Ontario. He joined the Army on October 18, 1943 and served with 2nd Division, 5th Field, and 73rd Battery in Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, Scheldt and Estuary Campaign and Germany during World War II. After his discharge on February 28, 1946 he returned to his wife Rose and daughter Helen. Bill returned to his trade as a Wilton Weaver at Harding Carpet in Brantford. He moved to the Bruce Peninsula and was an active member of Lions Head Legion Branch 202. In 1998 Bill received the Fifty Year Long Service Medal. Bill was awarded the 19391945 Campaign Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945, Overseas Service Medal and United Kingdom War Medal. Bill passed away on July 19, 2000. WHITE, William Wallace William was born in Woodstock, Ontario on May 22, 1886. He served in the Army during World War I. He enlisted in 1916 with the Canadian Infantry, Western Ontario Regiment – the 168th Battalion. During his service in France, Corporal Wallace was seriously wounded and sent back to England. After recovery, William was sent back to the front. He was killed on September 14, 1918 and is buried at “Ligny St Flochel” a British cemetery, located in the Averdoingt area, near Pas de Calais, France. Before serving and enlisting, William was employed by the local railroad as a bridge builder.
