471 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WHITE, Charles Ward Charles was born on September 11, 1896 in Woodstock, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1915 and served during World War I. He served for the Canadian Infantry, Western Ontario Regiment with the 168th Battalion in Canada, England, France and Belgium. Charles was killed in action in Belgium on November 12, 1917. Charles had a brother also serving in the 168th Battalion; whom also died during service. The two brothers, William and Charles, had another brother that remained home because he had failed his physical. Charles is buried in the “Artillery Wood Cemetery” in Boesinghe, Belgium. WHITE, Garnet Wesley “Wes” Wes was born in Flesherton, Ontario on a Grey City farm on June 22, 1907. He worked with Ontario Hydro as a power plant Operator. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1940 during World War II. He was an electrician with the RCAF and instructor and overseas in Leeming, Yorkshire he worked on Lancaster bombers. He returned to Ontario Hydro following the war and retired to Grey County in 1970. Wes passed away on August 12, 1982. He was a member of Legion Branch 333 for twelve years. WHITE, Frederick “Fred” Fred was born on December 14, 1898 in Runcorn, England and moved to Canada in 1907. Fred signed up with the 139th Overseas Battalion C.E.F. at Warkworth, Ontario on December 4, 1915 during World War I. In France, he was wounded in the knee and his knee bothered him for the rest of his life. When he came back, he married Agnes Yule Dick from Warkworth and worked at Jordan Wines overseeing the bottling division. He did not talk about his war experience at all, just wishing to get on with his life. In 1942, he bought an 80-acre farm on Spring Creek Rd in Clinton Township, as well as later working at Bauers Feed Store in Vineland. Fred passed away on June 15, 1968.
