463 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WALKER, George Arthur George was born in Cochrane, Ontario on March 2, 1925. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 27, 1944 and served in Canada, France and Holland with the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during World War II. He was discharged on April 29, 1946 and worked at Ontario Northland Railway for forty years. He was a member of Cochrane Legion Branch 89 and Timmins Legion Branch 88 for a total of 45 years. George passed away on January 15, 2014. WALSH, John John was born in May 31, 1926 in Arthur, Ontario. He left school to join the RCNVR during World War II on June 4, 1944. He did basic training at HMCS Prevost in London, Ontario and on-water training on Port Stanley. He went to HMCS Cornwallis for advanced training. From there he was sent to HMCS Stadacona in Halifax to take an Asdic (anti-sub) course. After course completion, John was drafted to the Mine-Sweeper HMCS Wallaceburg. The Wallaceburg was on convoy duty in the North Atlantic until the end of the war. Following discharge on December 22, 1945, he attended Toronto University, graduating in Pharmacy in 1952. He practiced pharmacy in Arthur for the next 62 years. John was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the North Atlantic Star and the Canadian Defence Medal. In 2002, he received the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal. He has been a member of the Arthur Legion Branch 226 for 25 years. WALKER, Thomas Thomas was born in England on December 29, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Navy on May 31, 1943 and served on the North Atlantic during World War II. He was discharged on July 29, 1946 and his medals included 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. He is a member of the Acton Legion Branch 197.
