He trained in England and then served with “A” Troop 166 Field Regiment as one of a crew of four manning a thirty pounder. He saw action in Africa and Italy where he served in World War II from August 12, 1943 to August 1, 1945. He saw some unspeakable things but only talked about the funny episodes. One such incident happened after they took a direct hit. Trying to account for everyone-one man was missing. Wilfred remembered that his solider had gone to the latrine-sure enough the latrine had been flattened. Thankfully he had been blown down into the hole-alive-but a bit smelly. The guys all had a good laugh over that. Wilfred is a member of the Legion Branch 503 Onaping Falls and has been a Life Member since April 12, 1984.
