445 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND THOMAS, Robert Gordon “Bob” Bob was born on December 18, 1942 in Montreal, Quebec. He joined 3 Column Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1958. At age seventeen, he enlisted in the Canadian Provost Corps (Regular Army). Following basic training, Bob served with 2 Provost Platoon in Camp Petawawa, with the first contingent of the United Nation Forces in Cyprus (1964) and the United Nations Emergency Force Egypt from 1956 to 1966. Next followed a posting to Ottawa and in 1968 he took his release, immediately rejoining the Reserve Forces, serving as the Provost Sgt. of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment until his discharge 1970. After his military service, Bob served in public and private policing, retiring in 1999 as the National Loss Prevention Manager of Sears Canada. He was a recipient of the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967) and the Minister of Veteran Affairs Commendation (2010). Bob serves as the Service Officer of Waterdown Legion Branch 551 and has been a member of that Branch for twenty years. THOMPSON, John A. John was born on December 31, 1926 in Hamilton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in January 1945 with the Canada Infantry. He served in Canada during World War II and was discharged in November 1945. He was a member of the Chesley Legion Branch 144. John passed away on February 2, 2005. THOMPSON, Edward Edward was born on June 26, 1898 in Dufferin Co. Toronto. He enlisted in the Army on January 28, 1916 and served until February 11, 1919 with the Q.O.R. 166th Overseas Battalion. He sailed from Halifax arrived in England on October 19, 1916; he signed his occupation as a teamster which was a driver of team animals or truck driver. He served in England and Vimy Ridge. He received the British War and Victory Medal. Edward passed away on September 20, 1972.
