439 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STROYAN, George William George was born on March 30, 1906 in Ballymoney, Ireland. He enlisted in the Army on December 24, 1941 with the Canadian Infantry Corp (Hamilton Light Infantry). He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on January 16, 1945 with rank of Corporal. He was awarded with the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. George passed away on April 27, 1986. STURGEON, Ralph Ralph was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on October 4, 1928 but grew up in London, Ontario. Ralph enlisted with the Army in 1949. He had a successful career in the military reaching the rank of Master Warrant Officer. Among his many missions was working with the UN in the Peace Forces during the Arab-Israeli War. While working in the same office at the Dept. of Defence in London, Ralph met his wife Isabel. They were married in 1950 and had four children. The Sturgeons travelled a lot and lived all over the world including Switzerland, Spain, the Yukon, Germany, France and Holland. Ralph was known as a Blue Beret for his intense peacekeeping work. He worked some high security stints in the Yukon with the Dew Line and NORAD. Ralph also consulted for the military in communications in Ottawa. He and Isabel now both reside at the Southampton Care Centre. He has been a member of the Legion in Kitchener and Port Elgin. STUART, William Joseph “Bill” Bill was born in Hamilton, Ontario on July 9, 1957. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on September 26, 1974 at London, Ontario. He completed his initial training at CFRS Cornwallis and CFB Petawawa. His career started with completion of six years in the Armoured Corps serving with the 8th Hussars in Petawawa. In 1981, he reclassified to Military Policeman. His new postings included 1RCR London, CFB London ON, Canadian Embassy in Beirut Lebanon, CFB Kingston ON and CFB Penhold AB. He also completed a Peacekeeping tour in Cyprus and trained in Norway as part of the Ace Mobile Force (AMF). His medals include the Special Service Medal (NATO), the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, the UN Force in Cyprus and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Bill was honourably discharged in October 1995 at the rank of Sergeant.
