431 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SPIRKO, Andrew Andrew was born in Czechoslovakia on May 11, 1914. He enlisted in the RAFVR on October 16, 1942 and served overseas during World War II. He was discharged on March 9, 1945. He has been a member of Frontier Legion Branch 71 in Fort Erie, Ontario. STECKENREITER, Louis Peter Louis was born on April 9, 1887, son of Nicholas Steckenreiter of Waterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1916 and was attached to the Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment), Division: 50th Battalion. Private Louis Steckenreiter was killed in service on April 10, 1917 and is commemorated on page 331 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried in the Canadian Cemetery #2 in Pas de Calais, France. ST. LOUIS, John Harold John was born in Windsor, Ontario on October 22, 1924. He enlisted in the Army during World War II on August 8, 1943 at the age of eighteen. He completed his Canadian basic training in Ipperwash and Hamilton, Ontario. He was shipped out to England on January 9, 1944. Once in England he was assigned as reinforcement in the Calgary Highlanders Assigned to Regiment in England and continued with his training. He landed in France in July 1944. He took part in combat at Caen, Falaise and along the northern coast of Europe in Belgium and Holland. John was wounded in Holland by German mortar fire on October 24, 1944 during the battle of the Scheldt Estuary blocking the Germans from their retreat. He was operated on in Antwerp and shipped back to England for convalescence in November 1944. He returned to Canada in January 1946 and was discharged in London, ON on March 7, 1946. He received the Purple Heart for his wounds along with the 19391945 Star, the France and Germany Star, MFM-196A UK Medal, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He returned to Windsor, Ontario and currently resides there.
