415 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHILLING, Arthur Arthur was born in Rama First Nation, Ontario on March 22, 1900. He enlisted in the Army on February 12, 1917 and served with the 177th Overseas Battalion, 19th Battalion in Canada, England and France during World War I. He was discharged on February 12, 1917. He was the son of William and Susan Wesley. Arthur lied about his age to enlist, he was only seventeen. He died of unspecified war-related injuries. He was not killed in action but died as a result nonetheless. Arthur passed away on October 8, 1920. SHILLING, Herbert Herbert was born in Rama First Nation, Ontario on May 20, 1898. He enlisted in the Army on April 19, 1916 and served with the 122nd Overseas Battalion in Canada and in England during World War I. He was discharged on March 28, 1919. Herbert and Emma York had a son named Arnold James Shilling on July 8, 1934. Herbert worked as a labourer in Rama and Orillia. Herbert passed away in the 1960’s. SHILLING, Clarence George Clarence was born in Rama First Nation, Ontario on March 12, 1895. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 122nd Overseas Battalion in Canada during World War I. Clarence and Priscella Snake conceived a child just before he left for training. Tragically, Clarence caught and succumbed to typhoid fever, which had infiltrated the 122nd’s camp at Huntsville. Clarence passed away in March 1916.
