405 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SCHRAM, Russell Gordon Russell was born in Simcoe, Norfolk Co., Ontario on May 1, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1943 with the Queens Own Rifles. He served in England, France and Germany during World War II as a Rifleman. Russell was a Prisoner of War. He was discharged on April 9, 1946. He received the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He met and married his English War Bride Iris Yates Turnbull and returning to Canada they had thirteen children. In 1968, they moved to Everett, ON. He was an active member of the Legion Branch 508 until his death on December 21, 1992. SCHWEYER, Harold William Harold was born in Walpole Township, Ontario on March 15, 1936. He enlisted in the Air Force on January 14, 1955 with Training Command and served in Canada. He was a Flying Instructor mainly in Centralia, Ontario. He was discharged on January 5, 1961. He has been a member of the Legion Branch 340 in Port Elgin, Ontario for 39 years. SCHWARTZ, Morrell C. Morrell was born on May 6, 1924 in Sullivan Township, Grey Co., Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in February 1944 with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during World War II. He served at Camp Borden and Hamilton. While he was training at Borden, the tank turret jammed and while returning to camp to fix it, they went to a corner. The tank commander was slow signaling Morrell, the driver. So Morell jammed the tiller hard and the tank did a 180 with the gun pointing down the road. He was discharged in January 1946. He was a member of the Legion at Branch 487 Desboro and 144 Chesley for a total of 58 years. Morrell passed away on April 18, 2007.
