397 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROULEAU, Gerald Alex “Chic” Gerald was born in Cartier, Ontario on July 9, 1923. Gerald was known as Chic to many. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 with the 48th Highlanders. He served during World War II in Europe, fought campaigns in Italy, Belgium and France. He assisted with the liberation of Holland and the Occupational Force in Germany. He was discharged on August 14, 1946, returning to his hometown of Cartier, Ontario to continue his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway and raise a family. Gerald returned to Holland in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of the Liberation and to Italy in 2010 visiting his battle sites. He was awarded the War Service Badge General Service. He has been a member of the Legion Branch 503 Onaping for 54 years. ROWE, George Francis “Frank” Frank was born in Orono, Ontario in 1890. He served in the Army during World War II. He passed away in 1987. ROWE, Ernest Daniel Ernest was born in Orono, Ontario just north of Newcastle on April 7, 1892. His parents were Richard and Eliza. His attestation papers indicate his profession at the time to be an accountant and he was a lieutenant with the 46th Regiment, 136th Battalion. He was approved for overseas service with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 25, 1916. Ernest fought at the Battle of the Somme, was gassed and as a result hospitalized. During the recovery he contracted typhoid and subsequently died of his wounds in the Oxford hospital in England in 1920.
