395 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROGNVALDSON, Clarence Laird Clarence was born on August 23, 1914 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II on November 26, 1940. He trained at St. Thomas, ON then was posted to Annette Island, Alaska and served there for eighteen months. Then he was posted to Skipton on Swale, Yorkshire, England where he served until his discharge on June 6, 1945. He then re-enlisted to serve on the Pacific Theatre and later discharged on September 5, 1945. His medals include the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. After his discharge, Clarence settled in Acton, ON where he worked for Baxter Laboratories as Maintenance Engineer for eleven years, then enrolled at McMaster University in Hamilton in 1956 graduating in 1959. He became a teacher at Acton District High School until he retired in 1978. He was a member of Trinity United Church, Three Masonic Lodges, Acton YMCA and a member of the Acton Legion Branch 197 for fifty years. Clarence passed away on April 24, 1995. ROSS, Clarke Newcombe Clarke was born in Canning, Nova Scotia on July 12, 1918. He moved to Toronto in 1938 to pursue his career in radio and electronics. In 1941, he married Lillian Fralick, just before volunteering to the RCAF. He deployed to England in March 1942, where he was ground crew working with radar during World War II. He was released in November 1945, was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and came home to meet his 3-year-old daughter. After thirty years with Danforth Radio, he retired, but continued to work at a golf course owned by his daughter and son-in-law for the next 25 years. In January 2007, he passed away in Port Perry, Ontario at the age of 88. He was a member of the Legion Branch 419. ROLLINGS, Ernest David E. David Rollings from Queensville, Ontario was born in Toronto on February 13, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in December 1942 serving with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment as a Private. He served in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was wounded in the back of his leg and was left with lots of shrapnel which resulted in lifelong back problems. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the France and Germany Star. He married Dorothy Sheppard from Holland Landing in May 1949 and had three children. He worked in Newmarket at Greenacres home for the aged as a Stationary Engineer Second Class. He joined the Milton Wesley Branch 426 in Newmarket in May 1946. He passed away after a lengthy illness on February 28, 1987.
