389 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROBILLARD, Philibert Joseph Philibert was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario on March 31, 1923 the son of Lionel and Helen Robillard. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 with the 3rd Armed. Recce. Regt. Governor General’s Horse Guards. He served in Italy during World War II. Philibert was killed in action in Italy on September 26, 1944 and was laid to rest at Cesena War Cemetery, Cesena, Forli, Italy. ROBSON, George E. George was born at Lot 18, Concession 11, East Nissouri, Kintore, ON on March 6, 1919. George joined with the RCAF on February 7, 1941 in London, ON. Following training at various Manning depots #2 Brandon, #1 Toronto, Quebec City, George was posted to Sydney, NS on general duties. On July 20, 1941, he was accepted for aircrew training and sent to wireless school in Montreal promoted to LAC, and eventually to 6 Group Bomber and Gunnery school in Mountainview, ON where he completed his Wireless Air Gunner training (WAG). In transit to England in January 1942 the troopship was attacked by a German u-boat. One of the escorts interceded and was struck by the torpedo intended for the troopship. Further training occurred in England and Sgt. Robson was assigned to 419 (Bomber) Squadron at Croft, Yorkshire which flew Wellington II bombers. George was promoted to Flt. Sgt. July 1942. On October 5, 1942 on a bombing mission to Aachen, Germany they encountered icing conditions. Two 419 Squadron aircraft were lost that night including Flight Sergeant Robson’s. Flight Sergeant Robson is commemorated by name on the Runnymede Memorial in England. ROBITAILLE, Ronald O. J. “Ron” Ron was born on March 29, 1945 in Sudbury, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps “765 Copper Cliff Highlanders Cadet Corps” from 1957 to 1962. He then served as a reservist with the 58th L.A.A. Regiment, 58th Field Regiment and the 2nd Battalion Irish Regiment of Canada from March 12, 1963 to October 31, 1966 and was given a field commission of CSM in charge of the Senior NCO’s at Ontario Central Command and retiring with the rank of Sergeant. Ron was and is actively involved in The Royal Canadian Legion serving as President of Branch 76 for three years from 2007 to 2009, Executive of Branch 76, Sergeant-at-Arms at Branch and zone. He was awarded Life Membership in Dr. Fred Starr Legion Branch 76 in 2013 and Legionnaire of the Year Branch 76 in 2014. Ron was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. Ron is still serving as Branch 76 Service Officer and Chairman.
