381 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RILEY, Gerald A. Gerald was born in Manchester, England on August 22, 1933. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948. He served in England, Mediterranean Area, Middle East, Far East, Korea and Canada post World War II. Gerald served on many of her Majesty’s ships and Canadian ships; HMS Gambia, HMS Orion, HMS Whirlwind, HMCS Bonaventure, HMCS Huron, HMCS Crescent, HMCS Algonquin, HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Buckingham, HMCS Fort Erie, HMCS Chaleur, HMCS Chignecto and HMCS Toronto. He also served at the shore stations CFS Shelburne, HMCS Stadacona and HMCS Cornwallis. Gerald also served with the Norwegian Navy when some Canadian ships were transferred to the Norwegian Navy in 1956. He also worked with the US Navy in their Shipping Control Organization. Gerald joined the British Navy as a boy Signalman 2nd Class, where he was referred to as “the lowest form of pond life”. Gerald was discharged in 1988. He was awarded the CD II, Korea Medal, United Nations and NATO Medals. Gerald and his wife reside in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has been a member of the Legion Branch 129 White Ension for 53 years. RITCHIE, Albert Milne “Bert” Albert “Bert” was born on July 9, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the artillery unit in England and Europe during World War II. He returned to Canada in 1946 with his war bride Lillian and was discharged on July 26, 1946. He worked in construction until he suffered a stroke. Bert was a proud Veteran until he passed away on August 19, 1995. He was a member of the Legion Branch 121 Galt. RINEHART, Milton James Milton was born on April 25, 1914 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served with Scout Division HMCS York during World War II in Canada until his discharge 1945. Milton’s father was a military police stationed in Halifax. Milton passed away on May 7, 1968.
