375 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND REEKIE, Gordon Douglas Gordon was born in Toronto on April 23, 1925. He enlisted in the Navy on May 1942 and served overseas in Scotland, England, Europe and North Africa during World War II. He was with the 260th LCI (L) 285, Navy combined operations, European Theatre and D Day Veteran. He returned home on December 24, 1945. He returned to his job at Silverwoods Dairy where he met the love of his life Joyce and they married on January 31, 1948. They had two children Denise and Donna and three grandchildren Amy, Samantha and Elliott. They were married for 63 years. Gordon left Silverwoods to continue his career as an international union representative with Alf-Cio until his retirement in 1987. Gordon passed away on August 11, 2011 in the Veterans Ward at Sunnybrook Hospital. REIMER, Jacob Jacob was born on March 23, 1925 in Markham, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in August 1950. He served as a Private with the 79th Field Regiment- Mechanical in Canada in Esquimalt, BC; at Camp Borden and Winnipeg, Manitoba and in Germany for one year. During his service in Germany, Jake convinced his fellow soldiers to give up part of their monthly pay to help German children in hospital. Each child would receive a gift on their birthday thanks to Jake and his army buddies. He was discharged in the Spring of 1954. REIMER, Bernard John Bernard was born in Mimico, Ontario in August 1918. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the R.C.E.M.E. in Canada, England, Holland and France during World War II. He went over on D-Day and in the time of invasion under heavy fire. He finally became shell shocked and was put in a re-ability. He was a member of the Fenelon Falls Legion Branch for two years. Bernard passed away on October 16, 1983.
