357 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PEARCE, Charles Gordon Charles was born in Brampton, Ontario on July 1, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served during World War II. He joined the Brampton Fire Department after the war and retired as Deputy Chief. He was president of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 in Brampton in 1974 to 1975. He married Ruby Moore in 1947. They had two children, Gordon and Jennie Lynn. Charles passed away on October 21, 2008. PECKHAM, George Henry George was born on March 12, 1917 in 7th Concession East Oxford. He joined the Air Force in 1943; he trained at Galt Air Craft School and then at St. Thomas Ait Craft School. He earned the highest marks in his class at St. Thomas. He was sent to Lachine, Quebec to work as a mechanic on multi-engines at Dorval Airport. He was sent overseas the same year and stationed with the #425 Squadron Alouette, but spoke no French. Finally he was given his own crew and served with that crew until the end of World War II. He served in airfields in Bournemouth and Tholthorpe, England. George was discharged in January 1946 and returned to his wife, Isabelle and daughter Mae. He returned to working for La France Textile, for 42 cents an hour, previously in 1943 he had made eleven cents an hour. He worked with various implement dealers before opening his own Lawn and Garden business in 1950. He retired in 1967. He was a member of the Beachville Legion. George passed away on January 15, 2006. PEARSON, George Wallace George was born on February 7, 1924 in Port Credit, Ontario. Turning eighteen on February 7, 1942, he enlisted two days later in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Squadron 418. As a member of the 418 Squadron 39th RECCE Wing he survived the Juno Beach landing and toured through Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. Receiving two Bronze Stars and three Service Medals of Defence, he was discharged in September 1945. Returning to his hometown he married his sweetheart Kathleen Jones on February 16, 1946. Together they raised three sons and eventually settled in Burlington to enjoy retirement and serve as a Member of Legion Branch 60 for several years. After a short illness, George passed away on June 28, 1992.
