345 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OPIOLA, Boleslaw Boleslaw was born on December 14, 1924 in Beresteczko, Poland. In 1940, as a young boy was taken from his family to Russia, to work as a prisoner in labour camp. After amnesty, Boleslaw joined the forming Polish Army. He enlisted on June 11, 1942. After his training in Iraq, the 2nd Polish Corps moved to Italy, where he was a member of the Military Police and took part in the fight of Monte Cassino in World War II. He was discharged in 1946. After the war, he came home to England, was discharged from the Army and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He worked in General Motors as a tool maker. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Polish Veterans Branch 418 for ten years. Boleslaw passed away in 1973 at the age of 48. OSBORNE, William C. “Bill” Bill was born on January 8, 1897 in Port Lock, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Army in January 1916. He saw action with the 119th Overseas Battalion in France and Belgium and was wounded in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He was eventually discharged and retuned to Canada. He married Christina Matheson in 1921 and made their home on a farm in Plummer Add’L Twp, Bruce Station, Ontario where they raised a family of six children. During World War II, he joined the Army and was assigned to the Veterans Guards of Canada where he served until the wars end in 1945. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211, Bruce Mines, Ontario. He passed away in January 1990, in his 94th year. ORMSBY, Gordon Herbert Gordon was born in Meaford, Ontario on June 11, 1914. He enlisted in the Army in October 1942. He served with the Pacific Command during World War II. He returned to civilian life after being discharged in January 1946 to farming.
