339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NORRIS, Winnifred Amy Winnifred was born in Guelph on October 13, 1923. She enlisted in the Army on August 19, 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. Private Winnifred was stationed at Kitchener as a transport driver. She was discharged from the regular Force on November 16, 1945. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. Winnifred passed away on May 27, 2006. NUGENT, Harold Hodgson Harold was born on May 7, 1925 in Sunderland, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on September 29, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario. He served with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, 8th Canadian Brigade, 3 Canadian Infantry, 1st Battalion until he was discharged in August 16, 1946. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. Harold was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Degree of Bronze Lion from the Queen of the Netherlands for “Distinguishing himself, during the operations for the liberation of Netherlands enemy-occupied territory, by performing acts of exceptional gallantry and tact, thereby setting a praiseworthy example under difficult circumstances”. Harold was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 43 Oshawa for 45 years. He passed away on February 12, 2002. NORTON, Howard Howard was born in Unity, Saskatchewan on September 8, 1917. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1939. He served as a Navigator in England during World War II. He flew back and forth to bring soldiers home and was discharged in 1945. Howard passed away on November 7, 1947.
