325 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MORAN, Cecil Cecil was born in Hucknall Torkard, Nottingham, England on February 19, 1916. He immigrated to Paris, Ontario with his family at the age of six. Cecil was married to Beulah Isabella Howlett before enlisting in the Army on July 2, 1940 and was a knitter by trade. Cecil was a gunner and was wounded in action overseas in July 1945. He competed as a boxer during the war. The family recalls stories of him working as a dispatch rider on motorcycle, which earned him the nickname “Blackie” after some very muddy trips. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II and was discharged on October 27, 1945. He returned to Paris, Ontario and had five children. Cecil died suddenly on October 20, 1976. MORGAN, Edward J. Edward was born in New York, USA on August 15, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on March 17, 1944 with the Essex Scot R.C.I.C. and served in Canada, England and Europe during World War II. Edward was killed in action in Germany on March 1, 1945. MOREL, Rene Maurice Rene was born on July 30, 1929 in Kitigan, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1950 and served in Canada and Korea with Lord Strathcona Horse at the rank of Trooper. He was discharged in November 1953. He joined the Legion Branch 85 in Kapuskasing, Ontario and has been a member for over forty years. After his discharge, he found employment in Calgary. He later returned to Kapuskasing and worked for Star Transfer for over 25 years, retiring in 1992. Rene and his wife continue to reside in Kapuskasing.
