315 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILLS, Don Boyd Duke “Rocky” Rocky was born in Chamberlain Township, Englehart, Ontario on March 25, 1922. He enlisted in the Army with the Cameron Highlanders 3rd Division in December 1942 and served in World War II until May 1945. He served in England, France, Holland and Belgium. He saw action on the beach – Caen resistance along the coast into Belgium and was there for the liberation of Holland. He returned to Canada where he married and raised three children. His career was the railway ONR; and he was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 104 Englehart for 65 years. Upon retirement he was an avid fisherman, hunter and teller of tall tales. Rocky passed away on May 5, 2014. MILLS, Frank Wesley Frank was born in St. Vincent Township Grey County, Ontario on December 3, 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on September 9, 1941 during World War II and was posted to HMCS Esquimalt, BC. From October 1941 to September 1942 he trained at HMCS Comox to become an Engine Room Artificer, operating the 2750 Horsepower steam engines that drove the Corvettes and Frigates. On September 26, 1942 he graduated as an E.R.A. 4, Petty Officer (engine room). He was then posted to Londonderry, Ireland at the Navy Yard Machine shop. From April to December 1944 he was aboard HMCS Outremont as part of Escort Group 6. He participated in Murmansk Run, D-Day, sinking U 1006 and protecting the UK western approaches. He made stops at Scapa Flow in Orkneys, the Shetlands, the Faroe’s Murmansk, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Cardiff – to name a few. In December 1944 he returned to Canada and tied up at Sydney to prepare Outremont for duty in Pacific. He was discharged on August 27, 1945. He was a member of the Legion Collingwood Branch 63 and was for thirty years. Frank passed away on September 7, 2007. MILLS, Donald Walter Donald was born in Chatham, Ontario on December 19, 1919. He served in the Army during World War II with the Essex-Scottish Regiment in Holland, Belgium and Germany. Donald passed away on April 29, 1993.
