313 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILLER, Mary I. Mary was born in Burford, Ontario on October 30, 1916. She enlisted in the Army in 1942 as a physiotherapist during World War II. She travelled overseas to Europe with the #10 Medical Unit Armed Forces. She was the only woman on board ship and stayed in the Officer’s quarters. She received the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp on June 8, 1946. After discharge in June 1946 she was head of the physiotherapy at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. She served in England, France, Continental Europe and Germany. Mary passed away on August 18, 1991. MILLS, Albert Sheldon Albert was born in St Vincent, Township Grey County, Ontario on April 14, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in October 1942 during World War II and did Basic Training at CNE Toronto. From November 1942 to January 1943 he was at the Royal Canadian Engineers at Simcoe, ON Training Centre. He then did Mortar training at Owen Sound, followed by Driver Mechanic training in Port Arthur and Woodstock. He did Chemical Warfare Training in Sheffield, Alberta. He was stationed in England from January 1945 to April 1945. From April 1945 to January 1946 he was stationed in Holland where he met his War Bride Truus Graafland in Apeldoorn. He went back to Trades School in Hamilton and was discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Legion Branch 32 Meaford. Albert passed away on August 22, 1988 at 67 from breathing problems and Brain Tumor. MILLER, Stanley W. “Duke” Duke was born on July 3, 1918 in Renfrew, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 during World War II with Queens Own Rifles. He was wounded in Dieppe and in Holland. Duke was discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Legion Branch 152 for forty years. Stanley passed away on June 9, 2001.
