311 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILDON, Albert Harry “Son” Albert was born on July 30, 1912 in Toronto, Ontario. He was the eldest son of Albert George Mildon and Molly Mildon. He was the Minister of the Elgin Street Baptist Church in Arnprior, Ontario, when in 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. A McMaster University graduate, Son earned his Navigator wings and after commissioning was sent to England where he received advanced navigational training. In February 1944 he joined the RCAF 427 “Lion” Squadron assigned to Bomber Command. Flying a Halifax Mark III bomber during World War II, Son commenced operations in March 1944. He went missing the night of March 18/19 on an operational flight to Frankfurt, Germany. The bomber was attacked by night fighters near Trier in the Black Forest. Flying Officer Albert Harry Mildon, KIA on March 18, 1944, is buried in a collective grave with other members of his crew in the Choloy War Cemetery near the town of Toul, France. He left his widow and three young children. MILLER, Donald Albert “Don” Donald was born in Hamilton, Ontario on July 16, 1921, the son of Edgar and Isabelle Miller. Don enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 1, 1941. He served in Canada, Britain, Central Mediterranean Area and Northwest Europe during World War II. He was a Lance Bombardier with S.S Queen Elizabeth and SS Duchess Agrangi. He was honourably discharged in October 1945. He received the Military Medal, the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. He was mentioned several times in dispatches for distinguished service. In 1946 he married Lorraine (Petrie) Burdis. Her husband John George Burdis was killed in Normandy in 1944. Don adopted her three children. Don and Lorrie subsequently had two daughters of their own, Marlene and Fay. Don passed away on December 25, 1993 at 72 years of age from cancer. MILLARD, George Edward “Ted” Ted was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 12, 1939. Ted first became involved in the military as a cadet in the Winnipeg Light Infantry Army Cadet Corps where he gained rank of Sergeant. Then when he turned eighteen, he joined the regular Air Force in the 2 (F) Wing in Winnipeg on August 2, 1957 and served as a Peacekeeper. His career took him to Metz, Germany where he served with the NATO forces as an Instrument Technician and Leading Aircraftman. Upon his release from the military on August 1, 1962, Ted later moved to the Ottawa area and in turn Carleton Place where he was a member of the local Legion Branch 192 for twenty years and served as Branches Service Officer for a period of time. Ted passed away on October 17, 2007.
