299 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McINNIS, Kenneth Myles Walter Myles was born in Newmarket, ON on March 16, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force Special Reserve on October 1, 1943. He served as a Pilot Officer/Air Gunner during World War II. Myles returned home to Newmarket where he married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Osborne; they had five children. Myles was a member of the Legion Branch 426 for fifty years. He passed away on October 1, 1997. McKNIGHT, William James William was born in Dromore County Down Ireland on July 19, 1914. His family immigrated to Canada in 1929. He enlisted in Listowel, Ontario in the Army in 1939 with the 101st Battalion. He served in England, France, Germany and Italy during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Legion Branch 197 Acton for sixty years. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the France-Germany Star, the 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal, and the War Medal. William passed away on January 12, 2007. McINTOSH, George George was born in Niagara Falls on May 13, 1932. In his late teens, George joined the Navy. Once when on leave he made his way to Liverpool, Nova Scotia where he met Sylvia. The couple married and blessed with three children. George served on three mine sweepers; HMCS New Liskeard, HMCS Stadacona and HMCS Quebec. He served in Canada and on the High Seas as a Peacekeeper. He received a medal of accommodation for his participation on March 1, 1965 when the Navy was called upon to assist in the LaSalle Heights Disaster. During the Cuban Missile Crisis people around the world braced for another world war. George was on a mine sweeper heading to Cuba when that nuclear war was averted. Although George did not face battle, he served proudly and made it to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. George currently resides at the Jarlette Health Services LTC home, the Southampton Care Centre.
