297 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McFEGGAN, James Harold James was born on April 17, 1936 in Tilbury East (Quinn), Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on October 12, 1954 and served for three years, originally the Kent Regiment and the Essex Scottish amalgamated becoming what is now known as the Essex and Kent Scottish. He was honoured to have attended the amalgamation parade. James was discharged on January 29, 1957. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion on June 7, 1983 and held many different offices up to President for two years at Branch level, Zone level up to Deputy Zone Commander for one year; presently he holds the position of service officer Branch 206 Tilbury, ON where he is a Life Member. James is a Past President of Kent Regiment Association, Life Member of the Essex and Kent Scottish Regimental Association, Life Member of Rondeau Rod and Gun Club Blenheim, ON and Life Member of Kent Cloverleaf Conservative Club Chatham Ontario. McGRATH, John H. John was born in 1921. His parents were Thomas and Phyllis McGrath. In 1939 John enlisted in the Army, 45th Field Battery, out of Lindsay. He was the youngest from the Town of Kinmount to join. After a brief training, John was posted overseas during World War II. In July 1944 there was extensive fighting in the Town of Caen and on July 24, 1944 Gunner John McGrath was killed in action. In 1946 the Charter Members of the newly formed Kinmount Branch of the Canadian Legion British Empire Service League were given permission from Thomas and Phyllis McGrath to name the Kinmount Branch in their son’s name, John McGrath. Seventy years later, the Kinmount Branch is still very active in the community service and proudly honours his memory. McGOWAN, Ambrose Ambrose was born in Brechin, Ontario on March 12, 1919. He joined the Canadian Overseas-Expeditionary Forces in World War II on September 26, 1944 and served in England in a Military Post Office. Ambrose never saw active duty as the war ended before he was to leave England for the front. He was discharged on December 12, 1946. He returned to Toronto, where he held a lot of different occupations, tree surgeon, gas lamp lighter and furnace stoker, finally establishing McGowan Fence and Supply Company in 1948. Ambrose married Muriel Hilda Smith on October 14, 1950 in Toronto, Ontario. They had three children Frederick, Catherine and Karen and six grandchildren, as well as two great grandchildren. Ambrose died on July 31, 1987 and is buried in Pine Hills Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario.
