291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MAY, Derek Derek was born in Toronto on April 1, 1974. He attended school in Hanover. In September 2000 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Naval Electronics Technician specializing in radars. He graduated from the Naval Engineering School in Halifax in 2002 and was posted to Esquimalt, BC and later deployed twice to Southwest Asia on the HMCS Winnipeg. After further training at Camosun College in Victoria he received his Commission and was transferred to the Army as an Armoury Officer with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. In June 2011 he was posted to Toronto Queens York Rangers as their Regimental Adjutant. He was transferred to 1st Hussars Primary Reserves in London, Ontario and released in September 2017. He is now employed at Bruce Power as a security officer. Derek and wife Shelly reside in Walkerton, Ontario. He is a member of Hanover Legion Branch 130. McCALMONT, Alexander Alexander was born on Island Magee, Antrim, Ireland on September 1, 1888. He enlisted in the Army on February 28, 1916 during World War I with the 18th Battalion. Alexander served in Canada, England and France. He was on patrol the evening of June 10, 1918 when a German patrol was encountered. Alexander was severely wounded and died the next day in Doullens, France. McASKIE, Marion Marion was born in Moffat, Scotland on February 26, 1925. She enlisted into the WAAF in 1944. During her time of service in World War II, Marion was an electrician for the Spitfire, working on the wiring for the machine guns. The Spitfire was small, one-man fighter plane which had a large degree of success against enemy bombers. After the war, Marion moved to Canada with her husband and her two daughters and worked in an office.
