285 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MALONEY, David David was born on May 9, 1942 in Manchester, England. He enlisted in the Navy on January 13, 1959 with the Royal Navy Supply Division. He served on the High Seas and England. David was discharged in 1970. He is a thirteen year member of the Legion Branch 197 Acton, Ontario. MARTEL, William William was born outside of Orillia at Rama, First Nation, Ontario on November 5, 1887. He was the son of Louis Martell and Marie Simcoe. William married Jessie Stinson. Prior to joining the Army, he had some previous military experience with the 35th Simcoe Battalion also known as the ‘Simcoe Foresters’. Enlisting in the Army on April 26, 1916, he was sent overseas and served in England and France with both the 177th and the 19th Battalions. He was discharged in June 1918. William returned home to Longford Mills (Rama). He passed away on April 3, 1965. MANLEY (CUTSFORTH), Doris Doris was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan on August 18, 1924. As a teen Doris moved with her family to Southampton, Ontario. She trained as a nurse in Owen Sound and in 1943 she enlisted in the RCAF during World War II. She attended wireless operator training in Montreal then was posted at various bases in Ontario and Eastern Canada. She relayed communications between the tower and crews performing bombing training. Doris also became a teletype operator relaying messages to pilots between Moncton, Halifax, and Pennfield Ridge, New Brunswick during D-Day preparations. After the war, Doris attended Northern Business College in Owen Sound then worked at the Southampton Hospital. She married Glen Manley in 1946 and together they had three children. Doris also worked at Canada Post and the Bruce County Health Unit for twenty years. Doris is a 70 year member of the RC Legion Branch 155 Southampton.
