283 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacLEOD, Hinson Archibald Hinson was born in Moncton, New Brunswick in 1917. He served as a pilot in RCAF from 1940 to 1946. He was attached to R.A.F Costal Command in Britain. He was wounded in action flying Lockheed Hudson on anti-submarine patrol and subsequently lost part of his right hand. He resumed flying duties at #6 Bombing and Gunnery School at Mountain View, Ontario. After the war, he obtained university degrees in Sociology, Divinity and Psychology. Hinson re-entered the RCAF as Chaplain (P) in 1959. He retired as Major, C.A.F, in 1972. Between 1972 and 1983 he served as chaplain for Ontario Correctional Services in Oakville, Ontario. He obtained an Honourary Doctorate from Acadia University in 1979. He has two children and two grandchildren. Hinson passed away in 1999 in Oakville. MAIR, Margaret Bertha Margaret was born in Caernarvon, Wales on March 3, 1926. She trained in nursing in England and joined the Air Force early in World War II. She served in England, Israel and Egypt. Margaret married in England and moved to Canada in 1970. She lived in Flesherton and worked in the Shelburne, Ontario hospital until retirement. She and her husband have one daughter. She is a member of Flesherton-Markdale Legion Branch 333. MacLEOD, Philip Fraser Philip was born on December 31, 1891 in Scotstown, Quebec. He enlisted in the Army on July 18, 1917 with the 79th Battalion C.E.F. and transferred to the 43rd Battalion C.E.F. on September 4, 1917. He served during World War I in Buisy Switch, Canal du Nord and Sensee Canal, Somme and Arras. On December 7, 1917 he arrived in Europe on the SS Megantic. Philip was wounded at Arrras on August 28, 1918. He received Shrapnel wounds to his right shoulder, right side of face and right leg and this resulted in his right foot and part of his leg being amputated. He was discharged on August 6, 1919. He also received two medals, The Service and Victory Medals. He was also presented with a copy of The Great Events of The Great War registered edition and dedicated it to two of his sons Kenneth and Donald MacLeod. After his return home, he took a job as a stock keeper with the Bell Telephone Company in Toronto. Philip passed away on October 27, 1937.
