279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LYNCH, William Henry William was born in London, England on January 6, 1871. He was married to Josephann Hilderly. At the time of joining the Army he was living in Steelton, Ontario and was a “track worker” with the railway. Joining the Army at the age of 46, he was sent overseas on the HMS Missanabie arriving in England on August 23, 1917. Landing in France on November 6, 1917, he would be tasked with repairing cut telegraph lines so that the allies could be warned of enemy locations. He relayed to a family member how after finishing a job sitting with another linesman, his friend was blown in half. He received the rank of Corporal on February 9, 1918. William passed away in 1965. He was a member of the Legion Branch 25 Sault Ste. Marie for 45 years. MacCORMACK, Thomas Hyslop Thomas was born on June 2, 1885 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army on February 15, 1916 and served with the 195 Battalion, C.E.F. Thomas as rank Private served during World War I in Canada, Great Britain and France. He was discharged on December 10, 1917. His date of death is unknown. LYNETT, John Arnold Arnold was born on November 25, 1917 in North Bay, Ontario. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army on March 13, 1942 with the Algonquin Regiment/Black Watch. He served in England in 1943 then deployed to France in 1944. Arnold was wounded in 1944 and spent ten months in the hospital in England. He returned to Canada in May 1945 with honourable discharge. He settled in North Bay, Ontario with his wife Priscilla and had their only child Doug in February 1953. He built their house under VLA Plan. Arnold was employed with North Bay civic hospital until his retirement in 1980 at the age of 63. He was a member of the Legion Branch 23 North Bay and had been for 35 years. Arnold passed away in August 14, 1996 and is interred in Forest Lawn Cemetery in North Bay, Ontario.
