He enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1916 and served with the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles during World War I in Canada, France and England. He was wounded by gun shot and has numerous shrapnel wounds. He served at Vimy and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was discharged on April 23, 1919. After the war he returned to the trade of stone cutter. He was a member of Woodbine Heights Legion Branch 22 for 37 years. William passed away on November 28, 1963. LITTLE, Walter M. Walter was born on February 19, 1921 in Walkerville, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on December 24, 1941 and served in Canada, the High Seas and England. From September 1939 to June 1942 he was at Canadian Officer Training Corp, University of Toronto, while attending his first three years of Medical School. Walter then took Officer training at HMCS Kings at Kings College in Halifax. He served aboard HMCS Westmount in North Atlantic Convoy Escort in September 1942. From mid-1943 to mid-1944, Walter was Gunnery Training Officer aboard Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships, which consisted of training Gun Crews and Merchant Seamen while aboard Merchant Ships in Convoy to and from England and tankers to the Caribbean. From mid-1944 to August 1945 he was Executive Officer of HMCS Mahone on Convoy Escort Duty in the North Atlantic. In September 1945, he returned to Medical School and graduated from the University of Toronto. He joined HMCS York, the Reserve Division in Toronto, as a Surgeon Lieutenant RCN (R). In July 1949, he transferred to HMCS Prevost, the Reserve Division in London, ON while practicing in Goderich. In January 1951, he became a Surg. L. Cdr., later a Surgeon Commander, and then Surgeon Captain until his discharge on August 19, 1965. Walter passed away on August 19, 2009. LISTER, William G. William was born in Toronto on October 26, 1917. He enlisted in the Army on July 28, 1940 with the Dufferin Haldimand Rifles, Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. He served during World War II in Canada, England and France. William was killed in action on August 12, 1944 in Normandy, France. He was a member of Woodbine Height Legion Branch 22 for two years.
