251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KUHL, Ernest Julius Ernest was born in Sullivan Township on March 10, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in October 1942 with the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment. He served in Sicily and Italy during World War II. He was discharged in June 1944. He was a member of the Legion Branch 487 Desboro and 464 Chatsworth. Ernest passed away on December 29, 2001. LACHANCE, Nelson Joseph Nelson was born in Ottawa on June 21, 1913. He enlisted in the Navy and served in eighteen Canadian ships and bases during World War II and beyond. He served in Canada, England and on the High Seas. Chief Petty Officer Lachance had the honour of attending the Coronation of King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth in 1953. He also was a member of the commissioning crew of Canada’s last aircraft carrier, HMCS Bonaventure. He was a Life Member of the Legion Branch 255 Riverside, Ontario. Nelson passed away on March 25, 1986. LACHANCE, Nelson John Nelson was born in Ottawa on October 16, 1892. He enlisted in the Army on February 22, 1915 with the 38th Battalion Ottawa during World War I. Private Lachance was a member of a four man machine gun crew. He served in Canada, England, Bermuda and France during World War I. He was killed by shrapnel during an attack on Regina Trench on November 18, 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He is buried in a military cemetery outside of Albert, France.
