239 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KILLICK, John Charles “Jack” Jack was born on August 28, 1919 in Middlesex, London, England; he immigrated to Canada with his family in June 1923. He landed in Quebec City and took a train to Hearst, Ontario, then took another train and was dropped off at a crossing where he and his family had to walk two miles to his Uncle’s. His uncle Arthur Killick and his father James Thomas Killick fought for Canada in World War I and were given a “soldiers land grant” in the Coppell area. He attended a one room schoolhouse at what was known as Killick’s Corner and completed his second year of high school in 1935. He enlisted in the Army on September 15, 1941 with the Royal Regiment of Canada – “I WING”. He served in Canada, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was killed in action in France on August 12, 1944. Lance Corporal Killick was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. His sister Gertie remembers him as a prankster and was always pulling jokes on people. KING, Frederick George Frederick was born in Marsh Gibbons, Buckinghamshire, England on May 7, 1892. He enlisted in the Army on March 4, 1916 with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in Canada, France and Vimy during World War I. Frederick was ‘mentioned in Despatches’ when he drove ammunition up to the front line in a horse drawn vehicle all under heavy enemy fire. Frederick passed away on February 1, 1961. KIMBER, Barry Lee Barry was born in Weston, Ontario on December 10, 1957. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces Logistics on October 6, 1976. He served in CFB Wainwright, CFB Borden, CFB Halifax and CFB North Bay (Sage) NORAD. He was discharged on March 4, 1979. Barry has been a member of the Col. Fitzgerald Legion Branch 233 for 29 years.
