233 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KELLY, Frederick Joseph Frederick was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on March 4, 1893. He enlisted in the Army on February 9, 1915 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Canada, Britain and France during World War I. He was discharged on July 25, 1919. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of Hespeler Legion Branch 272. Frederick passed away on January 29, 1973. KENNEDY, Benjamin Lorne “Ben” Ben was born on September 24, 1911 in Wingham, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals Reserve in October 1927 at the age of sixteen. Ben was a Sergeant in 1939 when war was declared and on September 4, 1939 he volunteered for active service. He served in Canada, England, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. Ben was awarded the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Volunteer Medal with Clasp, the Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal and the Efficiency Medal with Clasp. Ben was honourably discharged on October 22, 1945 and he returned home to his wife Delina and his two children, Robert and Helen. He was hired by Stelco in 1947 and retired in 1975. Ben joined the East Hamilton Branch 58, Royal Canadian Legion and was a member for fifty years until he passed away on January 20, 2007. KELLY, Walter Franklin Walter was born on July 28, 1927 in Norwood, Ontario. He enlisted with the Canadian Merchant Navy in 1944. He was Able Seaman, Watchman and served on SS Bennington, SS Rupert Park and SS Green Gables on the Pacific during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. Walter was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Pacific Star and the War Medal 1939-1945. Walter passed away on October 10, 2012.
