223 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JENKINS, David Ryan Kenneth David was born in Amman Valley South Wales, United Kingdom on July 7, 1923. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1943 with the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Division) during World War II. He has been everywhere except Australia and New Zealand serving in the North Atlantic and Caribbean protecting merchant ships from German U-boats. He served as a Convoy escort. He was discharged in August of 1946. He has been a member of Legion Onaping Falls Branch 503 for 68 years. JOE, Howard P. Howard was born at Rama, First Nation, Ontario on April 1, 1900. At sixteen Howard signed up but was soon discharged as he was considered too young and unfit. Being 5’2 and 110lbs his size gave him away. A year later on April 12, 1917 he enlisted and was accepted for the Army. During his time in the military serving during World War I, he was sent to England and France serving in a number of units—the 182nd, the 240th, the 42nd and 75th Battalions. Howard was honourably discharged from the service in May 1919. He passed away in March of 1930. JOE, Ernest S. Ernest was born at Rama, First Nation, Ontario on March 1, 1897 to Delina Agnes and Peter Joe. He enlisted in the Army on April 11, 1916. Ernest served with the Ontario Regiment. Following his training he was sent overseas. He served during World War I in England, France and Belgium in a number of units—the 182nd and 18th Battalions. Ernest was the older brother of Howard Joe and was honourably discharged from the service on March 20, 1919.
