221 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JAGIELLOWICZ, Romuald “Ron” Ron was born October 20, 1923 in Vilno, Poland. He was a solider of the 3rd Carparthian Rifle Division, 2nd Polish Corps under British command. From 1942 to 1943 Ron trained and served in Palestine, Iran, Iraq and Egypt. In fall 1943 he was in Italy, fighting alongside Canadians. Ron was awarded the (Polish) Cross of Valour and the (Polish) Cross of Monte Cassino. His regiment moved to the Adriatic coast; his duty was reconnaissance. In September 1946 Ron signed a two year contract with the British and worked for the war office. He moved to Canada in 1954. Medals awarded to Romuald as follows: Medal Pro Memoria in 2008 and in 2012 the Medal Pro Patria. On May 8, 2014 he was promoted to the rank of full lieutenant from the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Poland. In 2008 at age 85 Romuald received a Master’s Degree in the field of Russian literature at the University of Waterloo. Romuald has been a member of the Galt Legion for forty years. JARVIS, Stewart C. “Stu” Stu was born on September 8, 1945 in Belleville, Ontario. He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, The Royal New Brunswick Regiment (North Shore) on September 7, 1961. He was honourably released on November 13, 1963 and then engaged briefly as an Officer Cadet (COTC) until he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on November 12, 1964. He trained in Ottawa, ON and then served in the Provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario and retired on January 4, 1986. He received the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Stu then served another 22 years in Law Enforcement with the Province of Ontario. He has been a continuous member of Oshawa Branch 43 of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1982. JARVIS, Carl H. Carl was born on April 23, 1919 in Hamilton, Ontario. A school teacher, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1941 and served during the World War II as a flight instructor at various bases throughout eastern Canada. He was honourably released in September 1945 with the rank of Flight Sergeant and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. He attended the University of Guelph and graduated with degrees in D.V.M.V.S. in 1949. He practiced veterinary medicine in New Brunswick until his retirement in 1979. He was a member for over 55 years in The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 in Chatham, NB and Branch 6 in Moncton, NB. Carl passed away on January 31, 2000.
