JACOBS, Theodore J. “Ted” Ted was born in 1928 in Holland in a village near the Belgian border. While he was still in school, his country was invaded by the Germans. His brother Jack joined the Dutch resistance and helped downed allied flyers get to Spain and Portugal and back to England. Ted and others acted as lookouts. This was dangerous work. If caught by the Germans it usually meant the firing squad. After the war, he was drafted into the Army and became part of the Queen’s Own Guards and was sent to Indonesia as a peacekeeper. At that time the Communists were attempting to take over that country. He returned home in 1950 and went to work on a farm. He then met and married Maria and the two of them immigrated to Canada. He worked construction to earn enough money to buy a farm and raise a family. Sadly, Maria passed away in 1992. Ted later met and married Donna Gebhardt and they moved to town. Ted is a member of Branch 130 Hanover of The Royal Canadian Legion. JACOBS, John John was born outside of Orillia at Rama, First Nation on July 28, 1878.
