Military Service Recognition Book 536 ONTARIO COMMAND WILCOCKS, James Arthur Lawrence “Larry” Larry was born on November 19, 1922. As a RCAF Spitfire pilot with 403 Wolf Squadron, Flying Officer Wilcocks conducted the weather recco on June 5, 1944 after which a code word was reported to headquarters which delayed D-Day to June 6, 1944. Larry returned to Canada, survived tuberculosis, married his wife Rita and raised four daughters in London, Ontario. Larry was never afraid to try something new and opened a very successful fish and chip store. Later, retiring from proprietorship, he became a real estate broker and spent many years in London as such. Larry was also very involved with the Optimist organization and served many years in many capacities in the Fanshawe Optimist organization. Larry’s love for speed as a pilot trickled over to everyday life and he enjoyed many winters riding his Polaris sled, and doing whatever it took to go faster and faster. As a member of the Victory Legion Branch, London, Ontario, he enjoyed many evenings of fellowship with friends and family. Larry passed away on October 25, 2010. WILDMAN, Ernest A. Ernest was born in Hespeler, Ontario on May 7, 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Tail Gunner on board Lancasters in Canada and England during World War II. On January 20, 1940, he married Ceinwen Jones. He was a member of 408-437 Toronto York Wing A. F. A. L. and was a proud member of the Toronto Legion Branch 527. Ernest passed away on October 2, 2011. WILCOX, Lloyd M. Lloyd was born in Meaford, Ontario on May 4, 1925. He enlisted in the Army at the age of eighteen on November 1, 1943 at Toronto. He did his basic training in Brantford, Ontario and advanced training in Base Border, Ontario. He served with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in Holland, Germany, England, France, Belgium, Denmark, and Scotland during World War II. He received the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. Lloyd was discharged on August 14, 1946. He suffered battle exhaustion and has been on medication for PTSD all his adult life. Lloyd was employed as a postal clerk for Canada Post for 25 years. He has been a member of Meaford Legion Branch 32 for 69 years.
