Military Service Recognition Book 530 ONTARIO COMMAND WATTS, Arthur Bertram “Bert” Bert was born in Montreal, Quebec on October 10, 1925. At seventeen, with his father’s permission, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on May 12, 1943. He sailed the North Atlantic on HMCS St. Lambert and HMCS Amherst. Bert served in Canada, England and the high seas during World War II. In 1945, after his discharge, he trained as a bricklayer for two years before joining Air Canada, formerly Trans Canada Airlines, from which he retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of various Legions for 31 years and held various positions. He was also a member of The Lions Club for many years, as well as the Boy Scouts of Canada movement. One of his proudest moments was when his granddaughter, Linda, joined the Royal Canadian Navy and became a Lieutenant sailing out of Halifax. In 2006, Bert passed away of Cancer in the Bowmanville Hospital at the age of 81. WEHRENS, Alexander M. Alexander was born in Saskatchewan on January 7, 1923. When he turned eighteen, he volunteered with the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. His military training occurred in Regina and Kingston. After being station in England, he left for Italy. After landing in Italy, he saw action as a machine gunner as the Canadian Forces went through Rome into Northern Italy. Subsequently, he was captured and spent nine months as a prisoner of war and was repatriated December 17, 1944. Afterwards, he was stationed in Holland for the duration of the war. Upon discharge from the Army he returned to Regina, SK. Later, he married and had four children and moved to Richmond Hill, Ontario. When he retired he became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 375. Alexander passed away on March 21, 2015. WEESE, Ross P. Ross was born in Belleville, Ontario on February 3, 1912. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on April 29, 1939 at Toronto, Ontario and served with the Canadian Armoured Corps and Governor General Horse Guards. After his training, he was shipped overseas and served in England, Italy, France and Germany. His medals include the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. Ross was honourably discharged on March 12, 1946 at the rank of Captain. He passed away on January 10, 1990 at the age of 78.
