Military Service Recognition Book 526 ONTARIO COMMAND WAKEFORD, Lloyd H. Lloyd was born in Port Perry, Ontario on June 7, 1923. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in England during World War II. He worked in a paper mill for about a year before joining the Army and for six months after, and then went to work at GM in Oshawa for thirty years before retiring. Lloyd has been a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for sixty years. WALTER, John R. Terry Terry was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 9, 1934. He enrolled in the RCN on October 11, 1955. Initially enrolled as an Electricians Mate, he transferred over and became a Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface (MARS) officer in 1959. He served onboard numerous HMC ships on both Canadian coasts and at CF bases Halifax, Esquimalt and Kingston moving with his wife, Janet, and their six children. He served three times onboard HMCS NOOTKA, where the name of his three sons would be engraved on the ship’s bell. Promoted to Lt(N) in 1966, he would remain at that rank until he retired. He remarried in 1970 and had another daughter. Retiring from the Regular Force in 1986, he transferred to the Naval Reserves, serving at HMCS CATARAQUI, in Kingston where he finally retired in 1989. Never having been called to serve in an operational theatre, Terry still enjoyed 35 years of service with the RCN earning the Canadian Forces Decoration with two bars. Residing north of Napanee, ON, he also fulfilled his other dream of becoming a part time hobby farmer in 1976. Lt(N) Terry Walter, CD2 died in Kingston, ON, on February 4, 2012. WALKER, Harold B. “Ben” Ben was born in Paris, Ontario on December 28, 1917. He was known as “Benny Walker the Barber”. He was a barber before the war, became the regimental barber in the final two weeks of the war and after the war he owned his own business. He also played on “All Ontario Junior Lacrosse Championships” team before the war. Ben joined the RCR’s 1st Battalion (Private) on August 5, 1943. He served in the Central Mediterranean Area, United Kingdom, and Continental Europe during World War II. He was discharged on February 20, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and CVSM and Clasp. Ben was a member of Paris Legion Branch 29 for fifty years. He passed away August 18, 1996.
