517 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TILKER, Frederick Leslie Frederick was born in Hanover, Ontario on March 21, 1921. He enlisted in the Air Force on August 28, 1941 and served in England during World War II. He was discharged on March 9, 1946. Frederick was a very active member of the Legion, was President of the Hanover Legion Branch 130. He was involved with Youth Programs, was Parade Marshall for Remembrance Day, coordinated Legion funeral services and worked in the local factory as Union President. He was a strong community member, was on the Town Council and was Seniors Center President. Frederick passed away on October 17, 2010. TIPPLE, Frederick G. Frederick was born in Humbermouth, Newfoundland on November 14, 1924. He joined the RCAF 6 Group Bomber Command in September 1942. He graduated from Gunnery School as a Sergeant Air Gunner in April 1944. He was midAtlantic on D-Day in June on his way overseas. His first posting was 431 Iroquois Squadron and he flew his first “Op” on August 9, 1944. After eleven operations, he was transferred to 420 Snowy Owl Squadron. He flew another 21 trips and completed a tour by December 29, 1944 for a total of 32 missions. He was awarded a Commission early January 1945. He was trained as an instructor to train airmen arriving from Canada. In August 1945, he was on his way home with many others for one month before going to the Far East against Japan. The postings became unnecessary when at mid-Atlantic VJ Day was announced. He was discharged in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in October 1945. His medals include the Operational Wings from completing a tour of operational duty against the enemy from the Chief of the Air Staff (RCAF). He has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 and Veterans Memorial Branch 498 totalling over 36 years. He is one of a very few RCAF Six Group Bomber Command still alive. TILKER (CAMPBELL), Marguerite Jean Marguerite was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario on May 4, 1924. She enlisted in the Air Force on December 10, 1942 and served at station No. 14 SFTS in Aylmer, Ontario as administration and air traffic control during World War II. She was discharged on August 19, 1943. She married and became a homemaker and mother. Marguerite supported her husband who was very active in Legion activities while being a member of Hanover Legion Branch 130 for 69 years herself. Marguerite passed away in April 4, 2015.
