ROBILLARD, Maurice Joseph “Moe” Maurice was born in Arnprior, Ontario on November 6, 1929. At the age of 21, without telling his family or his fiancée Lois, he travelled to Ottawa to “sign up”. His training started in Petawawa followed by 45 days of advanced training in Wainwright, Alberta and three weeks self-defence course back in Petawawa. He proudly belonged to the 1st RCR Paratroop Regiment. Following eighteen months of training and while on a thirty day leave, on February 23, 1952, Maurice married his fiancée, Lois. During their honeymoon, Moe was ordered to report to Seattle before shipping to Japan to relieve the Second Battalion stationed in Korea since 1951. After returning from his tour of duty in 1953, Maurice was a holder of seven trades, had six children, and was married to his bride for sixty years. In 2009, Moe had a street named after him in the town he loved “Moe Robillard Street” in honour, thanks and recognition for his contribution to his country and his community. Just before his death on May 23, 2012 at the age of 82, Maurice was presented with a Special Acknowledgement Medal and Certificate of Appreciation from the Korean government in recognition of honourable service during the Korean War in defence of Democracy and Freedom. Maurice was a member of Arnprior Legion Branch 174 for 33 years. ROBERTS, James T. James was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 16, 1924. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in the Irish Regiment in Italy during World War II. James talked only one time about the war – One Christmas, James and his fellow soldiers had to take cover in an Italian home. While the Soldiers were cooking their meal on a pot-bellied stove, a soldier shouted “duck”. A whining bomb came in one window and out the other. James and his fellow soldiers were saved and had a good Christmas. James had his own business after the war and married Corry in 1996. James died on Remembrance Day in 2000. He is dearly missed.
