473 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RICE, Bruce G. J. Bruce was born on August 17, 1930, grew up in Ottawa and attended Ottawa Technical High School. He joined the Canadian Army in September 1949. On completion of training at the Royal Canadian School of Ordnance at Long Point, Montreal, he was posted to Jericho Beach, Vancouver. As an Ammunition Examiner Group 3, he toured various bases conducting inspections of munitions. Bruce also participated in the British Columbian Golden Gloves. After a three year enlistment, he was released in September 1952. He enlisted in the RCAF in February 1954 and completed training at RCAF Station St. Jean as an Intelligence Operator. He worked at Airforce HQ with the Directorate of Air Intelligence from 1954 to 1960. He moved to RCAF Station Lac St-Denis, Quebec in 1960. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was on full alert as part of NORAD. In 1962, he was named Airman of the Year and in March 1964 he was released from the RCAF in Ottawa. Bruce passed away on November 14, 2007. RICHMOND, James William James was born in Peterborough, Ontario on December 23, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 9, 1942 and served in Canada during World War II. John received the Pilot’s Flying Badge. He was discharged on February 1, 1945. John received a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Toronto and was employed by General Electric, Firestone and Union Carbide. He has been a member of Apsley Legion Branch 381 for seven years. RICE, Randolph Gordon Randolph was born in Ottawa, Ontario on July 8, 1953 and attended Rideau High School. He joined the Cameron Highlanders Cadet Corp, and then the Militia 3 Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers at age 16. In February 1975, he enlisted at the recruiting centre in Ottawa and was enrolled into the Regular Forces. He was posted to 3 Field Engineer Sqn, Canadian Military Engineers in Chilliwack, BC and promoted to Corporal in 1976. He completed parachuting training in Edmonton in January 1977 and was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment, and served as part of the Canadian Airborne Regiment Battle Group. After five years as a Paratrooper, he remustered to the Air Force as a Photographic Technician in 1982. He served in Trenton, ON; at Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering as a Photographic Instructor; 22 Wing, CFB North Bay as a Sergeant in charge of the photographic section; in Ottawa as Operations IC; as Master Warrant Officer; and transferred to Canadian Forces joint imagery centre as the Squadron Warrant Officer for A Squadron. He finished his military career as the Army Public Affairs Sergeant in Ottawa, and retired to the Barrie area. Randolph was awarded the US Army Parachutist Badge, Wing Commanders Achievement Award, Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, ADM PA Unit Achievement Award.
