453 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PIERCE, Raymond Basil Raymond was born in Kingsmill, Ontario to Benjamin and Violet (Brown) Pierce on November 8, 1922. In 1938 at the age of sixteen, he completed grade twelve at Spring Field Continuation School. On March 19, 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve HMCS “Prevost” London. He served in High Seas and in Italy during World War II. An “M” test indicated that he had a superior learning ability so he was enrolled in twelve months of training as a radio artificer. Service records show that Raymond served on the high seas and with fourteen different ships applying his skill as an artificer, inventing and installing subtle deceptive devices on ship radios, transmitters and radar sets. Raymond was discharged on March 11, 1946 with the rank of RA 4/C (Petty Officer). On October 9, 1943, Raymond married Mary May (Bell) and they had three daughters, Rae Ashton, Linda Pigozzo and Debbie Chivers. Raymond worked in the electrical trade for many years. He went back to school and received his BA which enabled him to finish his working career with fifteen years teaching at Conestoga College. He was a past member of the Keswick Legion and his daughters are members of Branch 530 Waterloo. Raymond died on April 30, 2014 and is buried at Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener. PLASTOW, William Braithwaite William was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on October 18, 1918. He enlisted in the Air Force in October 1940 and served in England during World War II. He was discharged in September 1945. William owned and operated a Shell Gas Station for over forty years in St. Thomas. He had two daughters, Laurie and Janice. He was a member of Last Post Legion Branch 410. William passed away on February 18, 1996. PIKE, Doug R. Doug was born on September 9, 1943 in Alliston Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1960 with the Black Watch Regiment and served in Germany and in Continental Europe in Regimental Police Force. He was discharged in 1963. He received the NATO Medal. A Legion member for over 52 years, he has received the 50 year Membership pin. Doug is a member of Hespeler Legion Branch 272.
