433 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NOBLE, Harry A. Harry was born in Markdale, Ontario on January 30, 1923. He was in college studying to be an aircraft mechanic and joined directly out of school into the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 13, 1941. He worked on the ground crew at Norman Wells, NWT during World War II. After his discharge on November 12, 1945, he went to the United States and had his own air strip and service and lived there until his retirement. He has been a member of Durham Legion Branch 308 for twenty years. Harry passed away on May 5, 2013. NORMAN, Stan Stan was born in Ontario in 1921. He enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served on HMCS Clayoquot on the Triangle Run in the North Atlantic and Canada during World War II. Stan served on many escort missions with the RCN on the Triangle run. On HMCS Cowachan, he spent 100 days off Omaha Beach, during the D-Day landings. Stan was a leading Signalman. He has been a member of Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497. NOCKLES, Arnold G. Arnold was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 3, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on September 12, 1939 and served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean Area, England and Italy during World War II. He received a gunshot wound to the right hand and a shrapnel wound to his left leg. Arnold was discharged on October 22, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Italy Star, Defence Medal, and the 1939-45 Star. After returning to civilian life, Arnold married and raised four daughters. He was a member of Richmond Hill Legion Branch 375. Arnold passed away on July 19, 2003.
