429 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NEALE, Edward George Edward was born in Toronto, Ontario on January 12, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on July 17, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, and was attached to the 1st Division in 1944. He served in Canada, England and Northeast Europe during World War II. Edward participated in leading troops through smoke by RDF at Wainwright, Alberta. He was later stationed at Prince George, BC. He was discharged on March 14, 1946. Edward has been a member of Richmond Hill Legion Branch 375 for seventeen years. NEWMAN, Samuel F. “Sam” Sam was born on June 4, 1938 in Toronto, Ontario. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Ship’s Writer on June 11, 1959 in North Bay, ON and served mainly on the west coast. Remaining in the Administration trade, he eventually transferred to the Air Force. At the rank of Corporal, Sam was Commissioned From The Ranks (CFR) becoming a Logistics Officer. He served at Ottawa, Borden, CDLS London Eng, 1 Air Div HQ Metz, France; AWU Decimomannu Italy, CFB Trenton; Moncton, NB; CFB London, CFRC Sudbury, NDHQ (DRS) Ottawa and completed a tour in Ismailia, Egypt. His medals include the Special Service Medal (NATO), Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UN Emergency Force Middle East, Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee Medals, the Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasps. After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired on June 17, 1993 at the rank of Captain and continued his association with the Air Cadet League of Canada who has awarded him a Life Membership. Samuel has been a member of Vimy-London Legion Branch 145 for 36 years. NEILSON, George E. George was born in Madoc, Ontario on May 18, 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on September 7, 1939 at St. Catharines, Ontario, with the Lincoln & Welland Regiment and served in Canada, Britain, France (Brest), Central Mediterranean Area (Italy & Sicily), and Northwest Europe with the RCR during World War II. George received the 1939-45 Service Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. After his discharge on August 15, 1945, George returned to the Niagara area and in February 1950 he served with the “L&W” as A/Sgt until May 1954. In July 1955, George returned to Madoc and became a Cpl with Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment until November 1958. He was a member of Madoc Legion Branch 363 for at least 45 years and served on various Executive positions including President, 1st and 2nd Vice President and Sgt-at-Arms until he passed away on December 9, 1999.
