423 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MUNRO, Albert Ira Albert Munro was born on May 23, 1894 at RR1, Perth, Ontario and enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Toronto on May 31, 1917 and served in England, Belgium, France and Vimy Ridge during World War I. He sailed to England on the S.S. Grampian and trained with the 5th Battalion Canadian Engineers. He was sent to France seeing action there and in Belgium. While fighting at Vimy Ridge he was gassed but was thrilled to return to Vimy in 1936 with his wife to witness the dedication of the Vimy War Memorial. Albert returned to Brockville, ON where he spent the rest of his life with his wife raising seven children and working as a contractor. He was a member of the Brockville Rifles, training the young men for World War II and attaining the rank of Major. He was a member of RCL Branch 96 of Brockville for forty years. Albert died on October 7, 1966. MURPHY, Michael F. Michael was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on February 27, 1894. He was a baker by trade. Michael enlisted in the Army on December 15, 1914 and served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in Gallipoli, Egypt, France and Belgium during World War I. He was wounded in the knee on April 12, 1918 (Battle of Lys). Michael was discharged on July 5, 1919. He married and had four children. He was a member of the Newfoundland Great War Veteran Association for five years. Michael died due to an industrial accident when his arms caught in a bread machine on August 18, 1924. MURPHY, Clifford D. Clifford was born in Murphy’s Cove, Nova Scotia on September 26, 1934. He enlisted in the Army on September 19, 1956 and served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in the Middle East. He was discharged in November 1968 and was a member of Lions Head Legion Branch 202 for 22 years. Clifford passed away on November 27, 2012.
